Buy your tub directly. Compare three installation quotes.
- Choose and purchase your tub from Walk-In Tub USA. Our office helps you compare TubToday models and product documents. Have a remodeler confirm the fit before finalizing your order.
- Contact three remodeling companies. Share the same tub model and desired bathroom finish with each company.
- Get three written installation quotes. Compare the same completed scope, choose the company you trust, and let that company coordinate the work.
You do not need to manage every trade or know all the technical details. Your remodeling company organizes the installation, and the Walk-In Tub USA office can help with tub selection and order questions. Take it one step at a time.
What should a basic installation cost?
Walk-In Tub USA’s planning estimate is $4,000–$7,000 for a basic tub installation in standard conditions. The stated scope includes removal and disposal of the old tub, plumbing and electrical rough-in, setting, leveling and sealing the new tub, and tile or solid-slab finishes. The tub purchase, freight and tax are separate. Condo and high-rise installations can be 50% or more higher because access and building coordination can add work. These are business-provided planning estimates; your remodeler’s written quote establishes the price for your home and selected finishes.
Customer-reported savings: Walk-In Tub USA reports that customers have described saving money by buying the tub directly and hiring their own installation company. Compare your tub, freight, tax and complete installation quote with equivalent installed-package offers. Customer experiences vary; savings are not guaranteed.

Let the contractor handle the local requirements
Choose the tub and finished look, then let your selected remodeling company coordinate removal, installation, trade scheduling and cleanup. Agree on one written scope and a clear price. You can ask the Walk-In Tub USA office for product documents and support along the way.
Measure the delivery route in winter-ready terms
A tub that fits the finished alcove can still fail at a porch, stair turn, basement landing, elevator, or bathroom doorway. Measure the narrowest clear opening from the receiving point to the room, including gates, railings, storm doors, door stops, radiators, built-ins, and turns. Record stairs and landing dimensions, ceiling height over stair runs, elevator door and cab sizes, and whether doors or trim are expected to be removed.
For a winter delivery, decide who clears snow and ice, provides a safe unloading path, protects floors from salt and moisture, and receives the shipment during the carrier’s delivery window. Do not leave the tub or powered components exposed to weather. Confirm where the packaged product will be stored, how it will be inspected, and whether the installer needs access before demolition.
Fit the person, not only the alcove
Lay the current model drawing beside the room survey and evaluate the bathing position with the intended user. Check the step-in threshold, usable seat, footwell, latch side, door path, control reach, faucet arrangement, water volume, filled weight, connection locations, powered equipment, and service openings. Smaller exterior dimensions may ease transport but can change the space available inside the tub.
An inward-opening door uses space inside the bathing well and must move freely after the user enters. An outward-opening door needs unobstructed bathroom floor area through its full arc. The toilet, vanity, radiator, doorway, walker, transfer aid, and caregiver position can all affect the choice. Confirm the exact model and handing in writing before ordering.
Evaluate the whole bathroom if the user relies on a cane, walker, wheelchair, transfer equipment, or assistance. Lighting, floor transitions, turning space, grab locations, towel access, the path from the bedroom, and emergency access matter alongside the tub. No product name or feature list establishes that a completed bathroom is accessible for every person.
Plan plumbing and hot water together
The plumber should identify existing pipe materials and sizes, water pressure, shutoffs, mixing arrangements, route length, drain size and condition, trap and vent configuration, and cleanout access. In an older house, visible piping in a basement can make some conditions easier to inspect, while a finished ceiling or upper-floor bath can add access and repair work. If the bathroom is on a slab, drain relocation may affect concrete and finished surfaces.
Compare the model’s fill volume and faucet requirements with the water heater’s rated capacity, recovery, temperature setting, and other household demand. A tank-size rule of thumb is not a complete review. The written scope should address any water-heater, supply, shutoff, drain, vent, or concealed-condition work needed for the selected model.
A walk-in tub’s drain description does not predict performance through unknown building piping. Require the installer or plumber to explain how the tub will connect to the existing system, how the assembly will be tested, and who is responsible if a restriction, improper vent, damaged pipe, or inaccessible connection is discovered.
Coordinate electrical work, floor support, and service access
The combined load includes the fixture, water, and user. If framing is not visible, the floor is uneven, water damage is present, or the work requires significant notching, cutting, or reinforcement, obtain an appropriate evaluation before finalizing the scope. The proposal should state who handles subfloor repairs, framing, waterproofing, wall finishes, floor transitions, access openings, and restoration below the bathroom.
Keep manufacturer-required access panels reachable after trim and finish work. A neat enclosure that blocks pumps, controls, shutoffs, or connections can make later diagnosis and service far more disruptive. Photograph utilities and framing before they are concealed.
Verify contractors and divide responsibility
Before demolition, require the proposal to answer:
- Which licensed contractor or trade performs each part of the project?
- What work must remain visible until inspection?
- Who schedules inspections and corrects rejected work?
- What approvals, inspection records, warranties, and manuals will be provided at completion?
Coordinate managed or designated properties with the contractor
If a building manager, association or historic designation applies, let the contractor help coordinate the rules for the actual property and proposed work. An interior fixture replacement should not be treated as the same project as an exterior alteration. Supply the contractor with the property contact and historic-preservation guidance where relevant.
Separate the tub order from the construction contract
Keep the retail purchase and the on-site construction agreement as two clearly understood records. The order should name the precise tub, left- or right-hand configuration, color, factory equipment, chosen upgrades, freight arrangement, inspection window, price, return conditions, and warranty. The construction agreement should define removal, disposal, house protection, utility work, carpentry, surfaces, waterproofing, government approvals, required inspections, commissioning, and items expressly left out.
Build contingencies around the Minneapolis property. Decide in advance how the parties respond if a stair turn is too tight, an old valve will not close, existing wiring is unsuitable, hidden deterioration appears, association access is postponed, or an official requests a correction. Extra work should be described and authorized in a signed change order. Broad promises about completion time, total cost before a site review, or health results are not substitutes for a property-specific scope.
Receiving, testing, and project records
Clarify the freight service before shipment: curb, threshold, indoor placement, or another written arrangement. On arrival, inspect the carton before signing, match the identification and door configuration to the sales order, photograph every side, note visible freight damage, and follow the stated claim procedure. Protect the package indoors and preserve packing material until the tub and accessible components are accounted for.

Compare the documented models with your bathroom
| Choice | Useful question | Your bathroom check |
|---|---|---|
| 30×52 IS Aluminum | Can the user turn and sit comfortably with an inward-opening door? | Test seated leg clearance and the measured opening with the contractor. |
| 30×52 OS | Does the outward-opening door suit the intended entry movement? | Mark the full door arc against the toilet, vanity and helper’s standing space. |
| Either configuration | Can the tub reach the bathroom and remain serviceable? | Check gates, thresholds, hall turns, stairs and service access against current documents. |

Compare complete project quotes
| Cost or responsibility | Retail tub plus local installation | Installed package |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Exact tub, options, freight and tax | Confirm the equivalent model and options |
| Installation | Complete contractor quote including access, removal and finished-room restoration | Ask which finishes, access and disposal are included |
| Uncertain conditions | Written allowances, exclusions and change-order process | Use the same assumptions before comparing totals |
| Service | Product contact and separate workmanship contact | Clarify who handles each type of concern |
Compare the retail tub, freight, applicable tax and complete local contractor installation quote against an equivalent installed-package quote. Match features, finish work, receiving assumptions, exclusions and service responsibilities. Buying separately can offer choice and cost control; it does not guarantee a lower total.
Three equal starting points for finding a contractor
BBB
Look up the same business and location. Read the business profile, letter rating and complaint context; accreditation and customer stars are separate signals.
Google Reviews
Find the company’s Google business profile and read recent customer experiences. Look for relevant bathroom work, communication and follow-up, alongside the rating and review count.
National Home Authority
Browse researched company profiles and their stated recognition and verification limits. Confirm the company offers the installation work you need.
Use all three together, then ask your shortlist whether they install customer-supplied walk-in tubs. Match the company name and location across sources and request a written quote. No directory or review rating guarantees the result. NHA is a private resource with business ties to Walk-In Tub USA; its recognition is not a government certification.

Minneapolis walk-in tub questions
How should I compare the total project price?
Add the selected tub, freight and tax to the complete local installation quote. Compare equivalent features and finished-room scope, rather than a product-only price against a package price.
Can I buy the tub and choose my own installer?
Yes. The retailer supplies the tub and you arrange a local contractor separately. Have the contractor confirm the exact model, fit and receiving plan before ordering.
Does delivery include carrying the tub into the bathroom?
Confirm the delivery service in the order. Ask the contractor to include the final carry, floor protection and any temporary door or trim removal in the installation scope.
Will the door work beside my toilet or vanity?
Mark the full door movement and the user’s standing or transfer space in the actual room. An outward door needs an unobstructed arc; an inward door has different seated-clearance considerations.
How should I plan for my only bathing fixture?
Agree with the contractor on the work sequence after the correct tub arrives and is inspected under the seller’s terms. Discuss the household’s bathing needs during the installation before demolition begins.
Can my remodeler coordinate the entire installation?
Choose the tub and finished look, then let your selected remodeling company coordinate removal, installation, trade scheduling and cleanup. Agree on one written scope and a clear price. You can ask the Walk-In Tub USA office for product documents and support along the way.
Where can I research a local contractor?
Use BBB, Google business reviews and National Home Authority with equal weight as starting points. Match the business identity, review relevant work and compare complete proposals. None guarantees workmanship, credentials, insurance or availability.
