Austin Walk-In Tub Buying and Installation Guide

Purchase your walk-in tub directly from Walk-In Tub USA, contact three remodeling companies and get three installation quotes. Choose the tub and company that suit your home and budget. Our office can help you get started, and your chosen remodeler coordinates the installation.

Buy your tub directly. Compare three installation quotes.

  1. Choose and purchase your tub from Walk-In Tub USA. Our office helps you compare TubToday models and product documents. Have a remodeler confirm the fit before finalizing your order.
  2. Contact three remodeling companies. Share the same tub model and desired bathroom finish with each company.
  3. Get three written installation quotes. Compare the same completed scope, choose the company you trust, and let that company coordinate the work.

You do not need to manage every trade or know all the technical details. Your remodeling company organizes the installation, and the Walk-In Tub USA office can help with tub selection and order questions. Take it one step at a time.

What should a basic installation cost?

Walk-In Tub USA’s planning estimate is $4,000–$7,000 for a basic tub installation in standard conditions. The stated scope includes removal and disposal of the old tub, plumbing and electrical rough-in, setting, leveling and sealing the new tub, and tile or solid-slab finishes. The tub purchase, freight and tax are separate. Condo and high-rise installations can be 50% or more higher because access and building coordination can add work. These are business-provided planning estimates; your remodeler’s written quote establishes the price for your home and selected finishes.

Customer-reported savings: Walk-In Tub USA reports that customers have described saving money by buying the tub directly and hiring their own installation company. Compare your tub, freight, tax and complete installation quote with equivalent installed-package offers. Customer experiences vary; savings are not guaranteed.

Let the contractor handle the local requirements

Choose the tub and finished look, then let your selected remodeling company coordinate removal, installation, trade scheduling and cleanup. Agree on one written scope and a clear price. You can ask the Walk-In Tub USA office for product documents and support along the way.

Measure the route, not only the old tub

The alcove opening is only one part of a workable fit. Record the old fixture’s length, width, drain location, supply-wall location, finished-floor condition, and the space available for panels and service access. Then measure the entire delivery route: driveway or loading area, exterior gate, porch, entry door, turns, hall width, stair width, landings, elevator opening, elevator cab, and bathroom doorway.

In a slab-on-grade house, relocating the drain may require a different plan than reconnecting near an existing rough-in. In a pier-and-beam or crawlspace home, access below the bathroom may help routing but does not eliminate the need to assess framing, penetrations, moisture conditions, and finished-floor support. An upper-floor bathroom needs a deliberate plan for carrying, protecting floors and walls, and confirming the structure with an appropriate professional when loads or framing are uncertain.

Match the tub to the room and the user

Begin with physical fit and operation rather than an accessory list. Confirm the tub’s exterior dimensions, door-swing direction, threshold, seat dimensions, footwell, faucet arrangement, controls, maximum operating weight, fill volume, drain connection, electrical requirements, and service-clearance instructions. Check which side of the body will face the door and controls during entry, seating, bathing, and exit.

An outward-swing door needs clear floor area throughout its arc. An inward-swing door uses room inside the tub and may affect how the user positions their feet. A compact unit can solve one space problem while creating another if the seat or footwell does not fit the user. A longer unit may fit the alcove but fail at a stair turn or elevator. Compare the published specification sheet with site measurements and the intended user’s movement pattern before placing an order.

If a transfer aid, walker, wheelchair, caregiver, or future grab-bar layout is part of the plan, evaluate the whole room. Door clearances, approach space, toilet and vanity placement, wet-floor surfaces, lighting, towel storage, controls, and the route from the bedroom can matter as much as the bathing fixture. “Accessible” is not a universal product result; suitability depends on the individual, the room, and the completed installation.

Plan water, drainage, electrical work, and service access

A walk-in tub should be reviewed as a combined plumbing, electrical, structural, and finish project. Ask the plumber to compare the model’s stated fill volume and faucet requirements with the home’s supply pressure, pipe sizes, shutoffs, mixing arrangement, and water-heater output. A larger tank alone does not answer every question: recovery, temperature setting, simultaneous household demand, route length, and the fixture’s fill time all affect the plan.

For drainage, identify the existing trap and vent configuration, drain size and route, slab or crawlspace access, and any need to move or rebuild connections. Do not treat a marketing label such as “fast drain” as proof that the house piping can accept a particular discharge rate. The completed system depends on both the fixture and the site plumbing.

Powered pumps, heaters, controls, or other options may require dedicated circuits and the protection specified by the manufacturer and applicable code. Have a qualified electrician document circuit size, panel space, routing, receptacle location, disconnect provisions, and inspection responsibility. Keep required access panels reachable after surround, trim, flooring, and cabinetry work are complete.

Coordinate managed or designated properties with the contractor

If a building manager, association or historic designation applies, let the contractor help coordinate the rules for the actual property and proposed work. An interior fixture replacement should not be treated as the same project as an exterior alteration. Supply the contractor with the property contact and Historic Review guidance where relevant.

Receiving and installation-day planning

Choose a dry, secure receiving location that will not block exits, shared corridors, or required access. Confirm whether delivery is curbside, threshold, room-of-choice, or coordinated with the installer. Inspect packaging for visible damage, compare labels with the order, photograph the condition, and follow the seller’s reporting process before installation. Do not discard packaging or authorize demolition merely because a freight appointment has been scheduled.

Austin walk-in tub questions

How should I compare the total project price?

Add the selected tub, freight and tax to the complete local installation quote. Compare equivalent features and finished-room scope, rather than a product-only price against a package price.

Can I buy the tub and choose my own installer?

Yes. The retailer supplies the tub and you arrange a local contractor separately. Have the contractor confirm the exact model, fit and receiving plan before ordering.

Does delivery include carrying the tub into the bathroom?

Confirm the delivery service in the order. Ask the contractor to include the final carry, floor protection and any temporary door or trim removal in the installation scope.

Will the door work beside my toilet or vanity?

Mark the full door movement and the user’s standing or transfer space in the actual room. An outward door needs an unobstructed arc; an inward door has different seated-clearance considerations.

How should I plan for my only bathing fixture?

Agree with the contractor on the work sequence after the correct tub arrives and is inspected under the seller’s terms. Discuss the household’s bathing needs during the installation before demolition begins.

Can my remodeler coordinate the entire installation?

Choose the tub and finished look, then let your selected remodeling company coordinate removal, installation, trade scheduling and cleanup. Agree on one written scope and a clear price. You can ask the Walk-In Tub USA office for product documents and support along the way.

Where can I research a local contractor?

Use BBB, Google business reviews and National Home Authority with equal weight as starting points. Match the business identity, review relevant work and compare complete proposals. None guarantees workmanship, credentials, insurance or availability.
